This is one of my recent sketch I have made after returning from Mirik , Darjeeling District West Bengal .North Bengal is always my favourite travel destination so I cannot ignore the invitation  of my friend in Jalpaiguri and  visited for a week recently. 

This time I planned for a tour to  Murti, Chalsa, Gorumara forest, Lataguri forest, Bindu, Jhalong, Chapramari, Lava, Lolegaon, Mirik, Darjeeling, Siliguri, Teesta, Sevok, Sukna forest etc. I had made a wonderful tour there.

 The beauty of the river Ganges in Kolkata has  always inspired me a lot. I  like to sit for hours for the open air painting beside the riverside. The environment is calm,cool and green here, perfect for doing sketching and painting works. The Calcutta port is nearby so we can watch many kinds of ships here.............very inspiring

This is one of my  paintings on the unpredictable life of fishermen live in Sundarban area in West Bengal. Most of the people in the Sundarban are fishermen or farmers. They are compelled to live a very hard and risky life. The region is densely covered by mangrove forests and is one of the largest reserves for Bengal Tiger.The interconnected network of waterways makes almost every corner of the forest accessible by boat. Forest are so important and vital for human existence in Sundarban area , the people even donot  bother about their lives to collect timber,fuel wood ,pulpwood as well as other no wood products including honey and fishes.

Through the use of colours, I strive to reflect the beauty and continuity of the nature through this painting. For me art is ever present because we are surrounded by shapes and colours which are the core of any artistic creation. My aim is not only just to transform my  unique vision of nature through painting ,but also to evoke a sense of tranquility , peace , serenity and harmony.

Now a days conflict is every where . It has become our part of life.  It is true that  without conflict we cannot progress in our life  as human beings.  No doubt the dearth of conflict  slows down the pace of self development ,community development and social development. 

Sometimes conflict can also create major problems in our personal and professional relationships if we are not so careful how to deal with it.  If we can separate the conflict from the emotions then I think we can avoid major setbacks in our lives. In this painting I wanted to depict my view regarding emotional conflict through colours and lines.

I think the journey towards watercolour painting is another path  of self development and purification one's mind and soul. A serious artwork always helps to enhance  sense of responsibility ,composed relationship with paper,stylistic purity,tenderness and concentration power.An Artist knows how to bring the spirit of fineness and lyrical detail to an uncommon subject or to a conventional theme. A profound and sincere sympathy can be created  with a warm and lyrical brush strokes.

Digha is a beautiful coastal town in West Bengal ,India. It is a favourite destination for me to visit the sea side . Sea is very beautiful here . I made this painting in the year 2010 from a reference photo I had snapped there . This place is near old Digha .

My Bhutan tour -The Memorial Chorten in Thimphu, Bhutan

The Memorial Chorten in Thimpu was built in 1974. The Memorial Chorten is dedicated to Bhutan's third king,His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck (the father of modern Bhutan ) Bhutan is a dream travel destination for me. I was enthralled with the beauty of nature ,hospitality of the people,discipline in city life in Bhutan.This painting is the result of my digging the past memory of my Bhutan tour. I made an initial sketch from a photo I had snapped near this Memorial. I had visited Bhutan before 2000.  A major renovation was made to this memorial in the year 2008.

The year 2011 had been a good year for my art . My work is being recognised at international level and it is an important achievement for me. A World famous University from North America hugely appreciated my work and also collected a print of my painting  for displaying . Hope 2012 will prove much better than 2011 for me and also for  you all .Wish you all a very happy and prosperous new year 2012.

As an artist and also an educator, my aim is not only just to transform my unique vision of nature through painting ,but also to evoke a sense of tranquility , peace , serenity and harmony. Here is a painting I did up in a few months ago. This is also a fully imaginative work of mine. A sudden spark of idea came suddenly in my mind after a heavy downpour, and I transformed the idea into a painting in my studio that very day.

People often get confused thinking how the artist plans to start a painting. I have some different approach regarding this matter. Sometimes I make some initial sketch by drawing some basic lines with pencil or pen ,sometimes I also start painting directly with brushes fully loaded with colours. I always advise my students to keep the initial sketch simple and purposeful. I have also said you earlier  that limiting your palette will drive you to concentrate more on your values.

In this painting I have again used the white of the paper  in the background and the foreground . I have also used the backside of my brush to bring the effect of the big trees beside the bank of the river.
